Contacts Everywhere!

My Contacts are everywhere - some in emails, some in Outlook and others in LinkedIn. Very few are found in all three places. This post describes how to utilize the LinkedIn Outlook Toolbar to update your Outlook Contacts from emails and LinkedIn Contacts. Great for sending “keeping in touch” updates to your network – inside and outside of LinkedIn.

1) Obtain & Install the LinkedIn Outlook toolbar. It can be found at the bottom of Linked In Page:

'>
2) Once Installed LinkedIn will be a menu option in Outlook. Now you can “Build your Network”

3) Start

4) Define the scope of the search by Checking one of two boxes:

“My Email Messages” in Outlook will find emails that you have either sent and/or received however there is no Outlook Contact.
“My LinkedIn Connections” will find folks in your LinkedIn connections that you do not have an Outlook Contact for

5) Check the folders to include:

6) Check the email accounts to include:

7) Now it will crank away and compile the new contacts (this will take some time if you have a large number of emails)

8) Now you make the decision on the candidates to add:

9) I highly recommend selecting the “Advanced Filter” to limit!

10) This in the LinkIn Contact Screen found in LinkedIn but not your contacts:

11) Finally Contacts to potentially add to your LinkedIn Network:

12) That’s It!

Now my contacts look like this:

The biggest pool are emails. There are a lot of "junky" email addresses I would never want to include into Outlook. The next smaller set are my Outlook contacts --- some I would never want to add to LinkedIn. The smallest set are the LinkedIn Contacts. Now my LinkedIn Contacts are also in Outlook and I have regular (or at least occassional!) email correspondence with them!
